An Angel For A Day

There He was singing,
In the middle of the square.
He had a long gray beard,
And long gray hair.

He looked a little strange,
And they were making fun at Him.
But He kept right on singing,
With a great big grin.

Well, He sure was looking happy,
As He sang that sweet old song.
Seemed I just couldn't help it,
I had to sing right along.

  Well He'd looked at me,
And I'd looked at Him.
Then before we knew it,
Several more had joined in.

We sang and we sang,
Every hymn that we knew.
What became of the crowd,
They stayed and sing along too.

Time did pass so quickly,
Day had turned to night.
I did so want to thank Him,
But He was nowhere in sight.

Oh, it really did seem strange,
For Him to disappear that way.
If He was sent from heaven,
We had an Angel For A Day.
