The Executioner

As we were walking down the streets, some of the crowd went wild.  They were hollering out to see more blood.  So I gave it to them. I had a whip in hand and I beat this man, until he bled. He had to carry this pole, most of the time He had to drag it.  I enjoyed hearing the crowds cry out, beat Him again.  It made me feel like a King with power.  When we got on the hill. I started doing my job and nailed this man to the cross.  I pounded the nail into His left hand first.  I felt the spike tear through the muscle tissue and bone.  A warm feeling went through me, I loved this power. So I pounded harder. I mocked Him as I hammered the other hand and foot.  He never uttered a sound. It started to make me angry, how could this man, take this much pain and not cry out.

It took three of us to lift up this man on the cross.  After He was up looking down at us, I heard Him say "Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing. "Who was this man, to ask for forgiveness for us?  One of the other soldiers placed a crown of thorns upon His head.  The blood flowed freely.  He still didn't make a sound.  So I thought I could make Him cry out.  I pierced His body, still no sound.  I started to feel strange.  I offered Him some vinegar to drink, just to mock Him.  He was making me feel, powerless.  I needed to put on a show, so I placed a sign saying this is the King of the Jews.  The people cried out for more.  Some of the other people were softly crying.  The other two men on the crosses cried and moaned, but not this man called Jesus.  After hours of hanging on the cross, He finally cried out.  My God why have you forsaken me.  I thought now, where is this God He had told so many about.  Call on Him and have Him help you. With these last words He took His last breath.  The earth shook, lightening struck, it was as black as tar, for three hours.  I have never been so afraid in my life.  I heard someone say truly this was a righteous man. My legs trembled from fear. For three hours it stayed dark, we had to light fires to see.  His people took Him down from the cross.  I went and hid, from fear.  I have never seen the sky black and the earth tremble so.  What had I done?  I was so afraid and the shame I felt was beyond words.  Was this man who He said he was?  I hid for three days.  I put Him to death and mocked this man.  Then I heard His body was gone from the tomb.  His disciples said He arose from the dead.  Here was an innocent man that I put to death; I was the guilty one.  I heard of His healing and His teachings.  I changed my clothes to beggars so I could follow these men.  I hid behind a tree; I wanted to learn more about this man they called Savior and Lord. I followed them around for days.  A man appeared several times to the disciples and they rejoiced. He spoke to the disciples, this was Jesus, and He did not look like the man I crucified.  One time He looked straight into my eyes and smiled.  He knew who I was, I trembled. I started to pray to His God.  I didn't know what I was doing.  I nailed this man, the Savior to the cross and took pleasure in it.  I was pure evil.  I needed to be saved; I would never harm another living creature again.  I can not get the picture of the hammer in my hand, out of my head.  I will carry this vision for the rest of my life.  I went up to Him to ask for forgiveness.  He took my hands.  I could see the nail holes in His.He said my son, I forgive you.
