GOD'S WORDS
This morning I
awakened,
With a poem inside my head,
Where did my verses come from?
Was it something that God said?
Then, I began to
wonder,
How do thoughts originate?
Do they really come from God?
Is He saying, "GO - CREATE!"
Then I question who
am I?
Why would God have chosen me?
Such arrogance is shameful,
Forgive my vanity.
Why would a sinner
such as I,
Be given holy words to write?
"That God works in mysterious ways,"
Clearly does not give me rights.
True, I speak fine
words of love,
Of Spirit, God, and Christ,
Of forgiveness and repentance,
And Salvation's costly price.
But if I insist on my
own theme,
The words simply will not flow,
I have to wait for God to lead,
And show me where to go.
I thank you God, for
waking me,
With special words inside my head,
I write them down as best I can,
Because they're clearly what you said.

WHY MY POEMS?
It seems that many mornings,
I awaken with the start,
Of a poem in my head,
Or a song within my heart.
I frantically run 'round the place,
To find my writing tools,
Then I write as fast I can,
And set aside the rules
Next I weigh what's more important,
The verse's form or verse's thought,
I must write it all down quickly,
Lest they both be soon forgot.
I struggle some with rhythm,
I search for proper words that rhyme,
Is there any music?
How's the tempo? What's the time?
Then I test the words out,
On my unsuspecting cat,
Who condescends to listen.
If I hold her on my lap.
But then, at last, I've done it,
I have a brand new song,
The birthing pangs are over,
This time they weren't too strong.
I get much joy from my offspring,
Each one, I greet with grateful tears,
Truly God has given me their words,
He has nourished me for years.

Lest anyone, in error, think,
I am seeking public fame,
Glorifying God in verse,
Is my one and only aim.
I must admit, however,
I do seek the public ear,
So when I sing God's glories,
That many men will hear.
For it is great to tell His story,
I am proud I've been allowed,
And, each time that I share it,
I am filled with love, somehow.
So, if I give His words to you,
And let the age-old tale be told,
Don't thank me for your blessing,
I've been blessed one hundred-fold.
