Hush ... Hush ... Do you hear,
That rapping on my pane?
Repeating and repeating,
Oh, there it goes again.

Of course, it is the rain drops,
Falling from the skies.
As a child, I was told
That's when Jesus cries.

Now, what's that other tapping,
That I hear overhead?
Squirrels running on my roof,
Happy and high-spirited.

Part of Jesus' family, too,
Just like the tiny sparrow.
The one God keeps His eye upon,
That flits among the yarrows.

There's a closer pounding still,
It's coming from inside,
My throbbing heart, I think it is,
It's keeping me alive.

God's behind that beating, too,
He makes it stop and go.
He directs its steady pulsing,
It's under His control.

Now what's that louder knocking?
I think it's my front door.
Opportunity is standing there,
Do I just ignore?

They say it only knocks but once,

And, if that old saw is true.
Give me sense enough to open up,
God will tell me what to do.

Every time I hear a knocking,
Or a rapping or a tap.
I think God's seeking my attention,
How badly He wants that.

So, if I am alerted,
I must offer God my ear.
He has so many wondrous things,
Prepared for me to hear.

The way to man's Eternal Life,
The source of man's Redemption.
The plan for man's Salvation,
And Rebirth from Resurrection.

Oh, poor, pathetic neighbor,
Aren't you aware who's at your door?
You've shut out your Creator,
Though He keeps knocking o'er and o'er.

Be He pounding loudly,
Or gently tapping to come in.
Open - open up your door,
And warmly welcome Him.
