READING AND RIDING UPDATE

I started Bible reading
Last year on the first of May,
I told you that I rode my bike,
And read the Good Book every day.

I told you how I pedaled,
For over forty years,
Along with the Jews from Egypt,
How I shared their hopes and fears.

Just as Jehovah guided them.
I began to see His plan,
And I, too, was filled with joy,
When we reached the Promised Land.

I met so many prophets,
And I read their words in awe,
I learned to fear Almighty God,
Yet, want the love from Him I saw

For eight long months, I read and rode,
I saw war, hate, peace, and love,
I saw a vengeful Father,
And I saw a God of Love.

Now, on this first day of December,
I wish to make a statement:
THIS BIKE-RIDING BIBLE-READER,
HAS READ THE WHOLE OLD TESTAMENT!

Some eight hundred bike miles later,
And nearly forty Bible books,
I have accomplished more than half,
Of what I undertook.

The balance still remaining,
The final forty-some percent,
I've been wanting for a long time,
It's our Lord's New Testament.

What better time to start it,
Than the month of His dear birth,
When God arranged for Jesus,
To be born and come to earth.

So, once more I start to pedal,
And I am reading as I go,
Christmas carols in the background,
Which seems most apropos.

I plan to read and ride,
Just as I did before,
But with my twelve new friends and Christ,
I expect to like it more.

I know it's the same old story,
That I've heard time and time again,
Except this time, it will be different,
Because I've been changed within.

There will be no big surprises,
I know the story through and through,
But as I read Christ' words again,
To me they'll seem like new.

I don't know if my mileage,
Or my speed will be increased,
But I do know that my knowledge,
And my love for God won't cease.

So, the New Testament now I tackle,
With my never ending goal,
To invigorate my body,
And to stimulate my soul.

And if my God sees fit for me,
To ride and read The Book once more,
I plan to keep on going,
'Till I park this bike at heaven's door.

READING AND RIDING - FINAL UPDATE

My mission was accomplished,
At noon on April twenty-first.
Revelation 22:21,
Was my final Bible verse.

I have read the O.T. and the N.T.,
So slow, sometimes, it seemed.
But, verse by verse, I plodded on,
And I have fulfilled my dream.

I closed The Book in gratitude,
Assured of Christ's return.
I thank God for His Holy Word,
And for the blessings I have earned.
